ASTM F2075-15 Compliant Engineered Wood Fiber

In the interest of public playground safety, IPEMA provides a 3rd Party Certification service whereby TÜV SÜD America validates a manufacturer's conformance to the ASTM F2075-15 Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment.

ASTM F1292-13 establishes an impact attenuation performance criterion for playground surfacing materials expressed as a critical fall height (CFH), which is the maximum fall height from which a life threatening head injury would not be expected to occur – measured as an average g-max score not exceeding 200 g and a HIC score not exceeding 1000. The CFH can be extremely high in cases where loose fill surfaces are tested and does not particularly give useful information to the playground owner. The IPEMA program follows and complies with the ASTM standard using the g-max and HIC criteria, except it tests the surface at a manufacturer’s specified fall height rather than determining the max height by which a surface meets the test criteria before failing. Use of the IPEMA surfacing logo means that a third-party laboratory has validated that the manufacturer’s specified fall height meets or is more stringent than the impact attenuating performance criterion specified by F1292-13, sec. 4.2.

The use of the IPEMA Certification Seal displayed above signifies that the manufacturer has received written validation from the independent laboratory that the product associated with the use of the seal conforms with the requirements of ASTM F2075-15 Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment. The following participants have each received 3rd party approval as a manufacturer and/or supplier of at least one certified product. To meet the Performance Requirements described in Section 4.6 of this Standard, Engineered Wood Fiber material must undergo the test method described in Section 9.0 to determine the presence of tramp metal particles. Metal particles embedded or mixed in Engineered Wood Fiber may cause injury if a child were to fall on/or come in contact with them. The limit for tramp metal was set to reduce the potential of injury.

The 3rd party validator has randomly selected and tested some of the products for each participant. In addition, the validator has performed a plant and/or home office inspection, involving a review of the participants Quality Assurance Program, Installation Instructions, and complaint follow up systems. The validator maintains a listing of approved suppliers (name and location) for participants that have multiple suppliers.

This list of IPEMA certified products is maintained exclusively by TÜV SÜD America.
